First Layer
Winter sports enthusiasts today are spoiled for choice right down to the first layer thanks to the variety of high-quality functional materials available. Synthetic fibre, natural fibre or a good mixture of both – the most important thing here is a good fit, tight on the skin, moisture-regulating, odourless and above all warmth.
THE SKI HELMET
Essential for enhanced safety on the slopes. Proper fit and size of the ski helmet depend on the individual head size. Light weight, ventilated and variable adjustment also increase the safety and wearability. You will receive professional sales advice at Bacher Sport including head measurement and a wide range of helmet models in trendy colours and designs. For those who wear glasses and those wanting an extra large field of vision, we recommend visor helmets with complete closure and panoramic views. All the models we sell in our shops comply with the necessary European safety standard CE EN 1077.
THE SKI GOGGLES
When purchasing a pair of snow goggles, the right fit and whether the goggles and helmet are compatible or not are just as important as effective UV protection. The field of vision should in any case be sufficiently large enough and pressure points avoided. It is important that the goggles protect well and are waterproof. Wind and snow in the eyes is not only unpleasant, but also leads to an increased risk of skiing accidents. We recommend dark or mirrored lenses for when the weather is nice. Orange or yellow in colour or even transparent glasses are ideal in bad weather. Polar filters also sharpen contours in the terrain and improve visibility. So-called all-weather goggles, e.g. by Variomatic or Varioflex, which automatically darken or lighten the lens, are also practical. Glasses made of shatter-proof and unbreakable polycarbonate are less likely to suffer from damage.
THE SKI JACKET
In addition to the desired look and a good fit, your ski jacket should most of all provide high thermal insulation, be breathable and impermeable. The so-called water column, which should not fall below 10,000 mm is testament to this latter criterion. Practical gadgets, such as a comfy hood, taped zippers, snow guard and key card pocket are all an added bonus
THE SKI PANTS
A good pair of ski pants will be a comfortable fit in the right size, ensuring sufficient freedom of movement and robustness. Sufficient heat insulation and a high water column extend your day out on the slopes and are therefore a pleasure in the snow. Heed edge protection on the inside of the pants to avoid rapid wearing. This means that you can enjoy your favourite item for longer. Braces, belt loops or dungarees are then merely a question of personal taste.
GLOVES
Fingerling or mitten? Which type do you prefer? The jury has long since been out on this verdict. Both fits have their merits. Finger gloves offer more grip and fit well in the hand. Mittens are warmer. The important thing remains that the size is right and your chosen model is water- and wind-proof. For optimum thermal insulation, gloves should not be too tight and should leave a little bit of air at the fingertips.
SKI BOOTS
Perfect fit. Good energy transfer to the ski. The right size and appropriate model for your personal skiing needs. This is what distinguishes the right ski boot. Also take into consideration the width of the boot relative to the ski, as well as the weight and hardness degree of the shell. The personalized boot fitting service offered by Bacher Sport enhances your comfort and performance to the max.
Skis
Almost as many ski models on the market as skiers on the slopes. When purchasing the right skis, the performance capacity of the ski must match the wearer's skiing ability as well as the desired area of use. The ski length and weight vary in proportion to body height, weight and skiing ability. The following principle applies: The better skilled the skier, the longer the ski may be.
POLES
The tool for the perfect balance. Cherry on the cake of each set of skiing equipment. Leisure skiers use ski poles for weight distribution and for the starting push. They are especially in demand for racers who need them at the start for launch. Pay attention to the right length for your height. It is important that your chosen pole is lightweight, but also robust and sturdy. Popular materials include aluminium or carbon. Adjustable telescopic poles are finding increasing use in ski touring.
